    Profile:

On New Japan's very first Tokyo Dome convention in April, 1989, a new masked figure by the name of Jushin Liger debuted, defeating Kuniaki Kobayashi. The man made very little impression at the time, and few could have realized the influence he would go on to have. He quickly won the IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Title, and in January, 1990, became a beast, renaming himself to Jushin Thunder Liger. It didn't take long for Liger to win the crowds over, a truly memorable feud with Naoki Sano captivating fans and setting a new standard for junior heavyweight wrestling. In the 1990's, Liger gradually created a legacy, with a mile long list of title reigns, and an even bigger list of great matches. Additionally, as matchmaker of New Japan's world famous junior division, Liger had many unique ideas, including the historic J Crown Tournament, where eight titles were unified. His brilliance was exemplified by his ability to change his style for numerous reasons, such as a serious ankle injury forcing him to lessen his high risk approach and become more of an all-round wrestler. The inconquerable Liger defeated perhaps his mightiest foe in 1996, when he overcame a brain tumor. In 2000, after conquering the junior division, Liger began competing in New Japan's heavyweight division, wearing an ominous black costume. Although he was unsuccessful at first, by the latter stages of 2001, he had picked up some big wins and challenged for the IWGP Tag Team Title. Shortly after returning to his famous red and white outfit, Liger turned his full attention back to the junior division. After tearing through NOAH's junior division for much of 2004, Liger turned his attention back to New Japan, becoming a true "heel" for the first time ever and wearing black again, forming Control Terrorism Unit (CTU) with Jado, Gedo, and Katsushi Takemura. Jushin Thunder Liger is the name most commonly associated with junior heavyweight, light heavyweight, or cruiserweight wrestling. For years, he has led the junior heavyweight scene with great pride, and raised the importance of the weight class with his effort and determination. He is a pioneer who has influenced many wrestlers, and despite so many changes around him, has remained one of the most popular and reliable wrestlers in New Japan. Liger continues to deliver strong matches and delights fans with his vibrant, majestic, performances. He is Jushin Thunder Liger, the greatest junior heavyweight to ever live.
