  • In March, 1999, two of the smaller independent promotions, BattlARTS and JWP, promoted an intergender six person tag team tournament called "King & Queen", with one man and two women on each trios unit. The matches operated much like battle royals, with over-the-top eliminations allowed, along with regular pinfalls and submissions.

    King & Queen Tournament(3/13/99 to 3/21/99)

    Round 1: Daisuke Ikeda, Devil Masami & Kayoko Haruyama beat Takeshi Ono, Mach Junji & Ran Yu Yu (17:03). Ono made Haruyama submit (5:59). Masami used a powerbomb on Junji (9:36). Ikeda and Ono were counted out (14:22). Masami pinned Yu Yu (17:03).
    Round 1: Alexander Otsuka, Hikari Fukuoka & Azumi Hyuga beat Yuki Ishikawa, Kana Mizaki & Tsubasa Kuragaki (24:51). Fukuoka pinned Mizaki (7:49). Ishikawa was counted out (19:45). Hyuga pinned Kuragaki (24:51).
    Semi Final: Mohammed Yone, Dynamite Kansai & Maya Hashimoto beat Daisuke Ikeda, Devil Masami & Kayoko Haruyama (7:13). Masami pinned Hashimoto (0:34). Yone pinned Haruyama (2:52). Kansai and Masami went over the top rope (6:21). Yone threw Ikeda over the top rope (7:13).
    Semi Final: Alexander Otsuka, Hikari Fukuoka & Azumi Hyuga beat Katsumi Usuda, Command Bolshoi & Carlos Amano (23:19). Usuda used an armlock on Hyuga (9:22). Otsuka used a German suplex hold on Bolshoi (14:46). Usuda and Otsuka went over the top rope (18:56). Fukuoka used a reverse cradle on Amano (23:19).
    Final: Alexander Otsuka, Hikari Fukuoka & Azumi Hyuga beat Mohammed Yone, Dynamite Kansai & Maya Hashimoto (13:09). Fukuoka went over the top rope (6:46). Hyuga pinned Hashimoto (8:44). Hyuga threw Yone over the top rope (11:53). Otsuka went over the top rope (12:02). Hyuga threw Kansai over the top rope (13:09) to win the tournament.
