In March, 1999, two of the smaller independent promotions, BattlARTS and JWP, promoted an intergender six person tag team tournament called "King & Queen", with one man and two women on each trios unit. The matches operated much like battle royals, with over-the-top eliminations allowed, along with regular pinfalls and submissions.
