Running across three shows, New Japan ran an unofficial sequel to the 2004 Young Lion Cup late that year, but in singles elimination format rather than round-robin. Some of the best young lions around fought it out for places in the semis finals and final itself at the Osaka Dome, and it would be Ryusuke Taguchi who followed up on his Young Lion Cup win with another trophy.
