In early 2005, tempers were flaring, with many New Japan wrestlers demanded shots at the IWGP Heavyweight Title, seized by trueborn turned All Japan star, Satoshi Kojima. A one night tournament was set up for Sumo Hall in March, with Chono given a bye to the final. Hiroyoshi Tenzan would make one of his famous revivals at Sumo Hall, beating Black New Japan's top two stars on the same show to earn his shot.
