After young lions, Ryusuke Taguchi & Hirooki Goto, won a four team tournament to earn a match against Jushin Thunder Liger & Koji Kanemoto for the IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Tag Team Title, forced changes were required. Kanemoto suffered an injury the day after the tournament concluded, forcing another tournament to determine who would face Taguchi & Goto in a decision match for the vacated belts. Once more, four teams competed, and at last two teams would face off tor the title.
