The "
G1 TAG LEAGUE 2001" tour was an important one for the junior heavyweights, as it marked the return of a junior tag league concept. The only previous time this had happened was in 1994, but the concept was never followed up on, unlike the heavyweight version. However, from 11/16/01 to 11/25/01, the G1 Jr. Tag League took place, featuring six teams and many good matches. Jushin Thunder Liger & El Samurai won the tournament, defeating IWGP Jr. Tag Team Champions, Jado & Gedo, in the final. One day after the final, New Japan held a transition show between the junior and heavyweight tag leagues, running a G1 Jr. 6 Man Tag Team Tournament at Fujimi Municipal Citizen Gymnasium. Four teams waged war, with Minoru Tanaka's trios team coming out as winners.
